PORSCHE 911 INSURANCE.

The iconic Porsche 911 was first produced in 1963 in Stuttgart and continues production to this day. Initially the model was known as 901, however this was soon changed to 911. With the traditional shape largely unchanged throughout, the 911 is the model that put Porsche on the map as a maker of high performance sports cars.

A bigger car than the 356, another change was the adaption of air cooled, six cylinder engines (a limited production 912 was available with a four cylinder engine). This increased performance saw even more success at the racetrack, with a 911 winning the famed Targa Florio race, along with further impressive results at Le Mans.

With four seats and reasonable luggage room in the front trunk, the 911 allows for a greater level of practicality compared to many other sports cars. Sportomatic, Tiptronic and PDK transmissions were available if the standard manual gearbox didnt appeal. Body styles included the Coupe, Targa, Cabriolet and limited edition Speedster model in 1989. The collectable RS model was first available in 1973 and the hugely powerful Turbo model was introduced for the 1975 model year.

The air cooled engine remained until the 996 911 of 1998, when oil cooled engines were introduced. Lightweight sports models such as the GT3 RS and GT2 removed many of the luxuries to reduce weight and included increased horsepower for exhilarating performance, whilst the flagship Turbo S can do the standing quarter mile in only 10.7 seconds.
